Universities & teacher education

Prepare teachers for the moments textbooks can't.

We invite universities and teacher education programmes to collaborate with us today, on experiential practice and research. Together, we would also like to explore a future higher-education direction for SPARK, so that transformation starts before a teacher's first classroom.

Educators discussing classroom scenarios around a table

Where we are: universities are collaboration partners we are seeking now. SPARK does not yet offer a higher-education product.

The challenge in teacher preparation

Judgment is learned in the moment. Preparation rarely gets to rehearse it.

  1. 01

Student-teachers often meet real classroom dilemmas for the first time during a short practicum.

  2. 02

Connecting theory to in-the-moment judgment is hard to teach and harder to assess.

  3. 03

Research on how teachers develop professional judgment needs realistic, structured settings.

Collaboration today

Four ways to work together now

Each builds on SPARK Studio's Situation Rooms. We shape the details with each faculty.

  • In courses and practicums

Use Situation Rooms within pre-service or in-service programmes, so student-teachers rehearse real dilemmas before and alongside classroom placements.

  • Joint research

Study how reflection and structured feedback shape professional judgment, with research questions designed together with faculty.

  • Scenario co-development

Co-develop Situation Rooms grounded in Indian classrooms, drawing on faculty expertise and student-teacher experience.

  • Faculty development

Explore how teacher educators can facilitate reflection conversations around shared situations.

Suggested pilot

Course or practicum pilot

Integrate selected Situation Rooms into one course or practicum for a semester, around a research question designed jointly with faculty.

A starting shape, agreed and adapted with each university.

  1. 1

    Frame

Agree a course or practicum, a cohort and a research question with faculty.

  2. 2

    Prepare

Select Situation Rooms that fit the course, and agree consent and ethics through the university's own processes.

  3. 3

    Run

Student-teachers work through the Situation Rooms across the semester, with faculty-led reflection.

  4. 4

    Review

Look at what was learned together and decide whether, and how, to continue.

A future direction

Proposed

Higher-education programmes, shaped with universities

Over time, SPARK could grow into an offering for higher-education programmes. These are early ideas, not products, and we want to shape them with faculty who join us now.

  • Proposed

    Situation Rooms for teacher preparation

Scenario sequences designed for pre-service programmes, aligned with course and practicum structures.

  • Proposed

    Faculty-guided cohorts

Tools for teacher educators to run Situation Rooms with a class and lead the reflection discussion.

  • Proposed

    Research-ready study designs

Structured ways to study reflection and judgment over time, with consent and ethics handled through each university's own processes.
