SPARK Compass

Proposed

So that every child is seen — this year, and the next.

Our proposed approach to teacher-led holistic learner development: observation, mentoring, parent conversations, holistic progress and continuity from one year to the next. It is the second pillar of the SPARK platform, designed to make sure no child's growth is lost between one year and the next.

The problem Compass addresses

What teachers know about a child shouldn't disappear in June.

Teachers notice a great deal: a learner's growing confidence, a quiet struggle, a talent no exam measures. Too often that understanding stays in one teacher's memory.

Compass is designed to help teachers capture what matters, follow up through mentoring, prepare balanced parent conversations, describe holistic progress, and hand over to next year's teacher with care.

A school year in Compass

A rhythm teachers already know, made continuous

  1. All year

    Observe

Teachers record short, respectful observations of strengths, interests and growth as they notice them.

  2. Each month

    Mentor

Mentors keep a light-touch thread of conversations and agreed next steps with each learner.

  3. Each term

    Prepare for PTMs

Before parent-teacher meetings, teachers see a balanced picture of the whole child to guide the conversation.

  4. Term-end

    Review holistic progress

Progress across domains, described in words and evidence rather than ranks, in a structure that supports Holistic Progress Card practice.

  5. Year-end

    Hand over with care

Next year's teacher begins with understanding, not from zero.

NEP 2020 and Holistic Progress Card practice

Designed in alignment with holistic progress

India's National Education Policy 2020 calls for assessment that reflects the whole child, and for progress cards that are holistic and multidimensional rather than marks alone.

Compass is being shaped around the same ideas, so that the observations teachers already make can inform Holistic Progress Card (HPC) work naturally. That is a design choice we have made, not a claim of compliance.

Compass is a proposed design. It is not an official HPC tool and has not been reviewed or endorsed by any education authority. Schools remain responsible for their own HPC formats and reporting requirements.

  • 01

    Multiple domains

Thinking, social-emotional, physical and creative growth, not only academic marks.

  • 02

    Many perspectives

Room for self, peer, parent and teacher voices alongside one another.

  • 03

    Evidence, not ranks

Descriptive stages backed by observations and examples of work.

Proposed capabilities

A teacher-led workflow for holistic progress

  • 01Proposed

    Teacher observations

Simple, respectful notes on a learner's strengths, interests and growth, recorded by the teachers who know them.

  • 02Proposed

    Developmental evidence

Appropriate, consented examples of work and participation that show growth beyond marks.

  • 03Proposed

    Mentoring follow-up

Light-touch prompts that help mentors keep conversations with each learner going over time.

  • 04Proposed

    Parent-teacher meeting preparation

A clear, balanced picture of the learner that helps teachers and parents talk about the whole child.

  • 05Proposed

    Holistic progress workflows

A shared rhythm for reviewing each learner's development across the school year, structured to support Holistic Progress Card (HPC) practice.

  • 06Proposed

    Year-end teacher handover

Continuity from one year to the next, so the next teacher starts with understanding, not from zero.

Our guardrails

Built around teachers, with respect for every learner

  • Teachers make the observations and the decisions. Technology organises, it does not judge.

  • No ranking of children, and no automated profiling of learners.

  • AI is never presented as a mentor or decision-maker for students.

  • Developmental evidence is collected appropriately, with care for privacy and consent.

The first pillar

Compass depends on ready teachers. That work starts today with SPARK Studio.
