SPARK in Action · Vandemataram Foundation
Technology around the work already happening on the ground.
Vandemataram Foundation works directly with government-school students, mentors, teachers, parents and communities through programs such as Shata Shaatam and Kalam 100. As these programs grow across schools and cohorts, SPARK is helping create continuity around the people and stories behind the numbers.

Students
SPARK with Vandemataram Foundation is currently supporting program visibility across 34 government schools and approximately 8,500 students. These figures describe the scope of SPARK's work with VMF, not VMF's full organisational footprint.
The ground reality
Vandemataram Foundation has worked in rural education since 2005. It describes its mission around quality, value-driven education, character building and community empowerment, and it does that work directly: with government schools, students, parents, volunteer mentors, teachers and communities.
That field work, and the relationships behind it, belong to VMF. Its programs, mentors, field teams, school relationships and CSR partnerships were established long before SPARK, and VMF's historical educational outcomes are its own.
The programs
VMF supports students academically, personally and through mentoring. SPARK is being shaped around the workflows of two of its programs in particular.
Shata Shaatam
A school-success intervention for government-school students, using volunteer mentors, Little Teachers, study groups, assessments and sustained academic guidance.
Kalam 100
A year-long residential program for 100 underprivileged students, combining academics, values and personal development.

The coordination challenge
As programs expand across schools and student cohorts, information naturally becomes distributed across many people and moments:
- Mentors and volunteers
- School visits and student interactions
- Assessments and program activities
- Student stories
- Reports for leadership and sponsors
The challenge is maintaining continuity around each student and making the journey visible, without adding burden to the people doing the field work.
Where SPARK fits
SPARK is the structured digital layer around VMF's work. It is being used to help structure student profiles, capture mentoring and developmental context, organise program and cohort information, preserve stories from schools, and strengthen the progress narrative available to VMF leadership and CSR partners.

- Where SPARK helps
- VMF leadership and CSR partners
VMF does the work on the ground. SPARK helps make that work connected, visible and easier to carry forward.
SPARK does not replace the mentors, volunteers or field teams who make the program work. It helps their work become more connected, visible and easier to carry forward.
What this enables
VMF's CSR model already includes monthly and quarterly progress reporting, impact stories and transparent sponsor communication. SPARK is designed to support that existing practice. The potential value below is what the collaboration is designed to deliver and evaluate; none of it is presented as proven impact.
Continuity around each learner
Proposed measureWhether each student's profile, mentoring context and story carry forward as mentors, volunteers and years change.
Visibility for program leadership
Proposed measureWhether VMF leaders can see school and cohort progress more clearly and sooner.
Coordination across programs and cohorts
Proposed measureWhether information from visits, interactions and activities is easier to bring together.
Consistent story capture
Proposed measureWhether stories from schools are captured more consistently, with appropriate consent.
Stronger progress narratives
Proposed measureWhether progress narratives draw on structured, longitudinal context rather than one-off snapshots.
Better CSR reporting
Proposed measureWhether CSR-facing reports become easier to prepare and more useful to sponsors.
Outcomes reported by VMF about its programs are VMF's. Outcomes specifically attributable to SPARK will be published only once evaluated, with method and sources.

Evidence and next steps
01
Currently operational
- Structuring student profiles and longitudinal student context
- Capturing mentoring and developmental context
- Organising program, school and cohort information
- Preserving stories from schools
02
Being implemented
- Extending these workflows across participating schools and cohorts, alongside VMF's field teams
- Strengthening the progress narrative available to VMF leadership and CSR partners
03
Being evaluated
- The proposed measures above, agreed with VMF before any result is reported
04
Planned next
- Publishing approved voices from VMF leadership
- Adding authentic field photography where permission exists
- Reporting verified findings with method and sources
This story describes work in progress. It reports no measured outcomes, and does not attribute VMF's historical program outcomes to SPARK. Stages reflect the SPARK team's current account and will be updated as the work develops.
